NEW DELHI – US-based Micron Technology will begin commercial production at its semiconductor facility in Gujarat, which had availed financial assistance from the government under the India Semiconductor Mission, by the end of February, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology Secretary S. Krishnan said Monday. Nine more semiconductor facilities, under the Mission, are also expected to begin production by the end of this year, Krishnan added.
After the success of the India Semiconductor Mission, launched in 2022, the government had announced the rollout of the India Semiconductor Mission 2.0 in the Budget for 2026-27 (Apr-Mar). Under the Semiconductor Mission 2.0, the government will continue its focus on semiconductor chip design and provide support to strengthen manufacturing capabilities, Krishnan said at the India AI Impact Summit here.
Krishnan mentioned that FY27 Budget has clarified tax treatment for overseas firms setting up AI cloud and data centre capacity in India for global operations. This will make India more attractive as a destination for large-scale compute infrastructure, Krishnan said. End
