Rabi sowing ends with acreage up 2.4% on year at 67.7 mln ha

NEW DELHI – As sowing for the 2024-25 rabi season has concluded across India, the overall acreage remains broadly unchanged from last week, with marginal adjustments reflecting the final tally, data released by the agriculture ministry showed. Acreage under wheat, the largest rabi crop, stood at about 33.4 million hectares, up nearly 1.9% on year, and was unchanged from last week's provisional estimate.
Total area sown during the rabi season stood at 67.7 million hectares, up 2.4% on year compared with 66.1 million hectares in the corresponding period last year, indicating a stable close to the planting window.
Total pulses acreage came in at nearly 14.0 million hectares, marking an increase of about 3.7% on year, supported by higher sowing under key winter legumes such as chana and masur.
The area under coarse cereals was recorded around 6.1 million hectares, up 1.6% from a year ago, with the overall footprint remaining almost unchanged from last week's estimates.
Total oilseeds acreage was reported at about 9.7 million hectares, up 3.8% on year, broadly in line with earlier projections as sowing activity wrapped up. End
