MUMBAI – Cholamandalam Financial Holdings Ltd. reported a substantial on-year rise in its bottom line for the December quarter driven by a strong rise in total income.
The core investment company, part of the diversified Murugappa group, reported a consolidated net profit of INR 6.26 billion for the December quarter, up nearly 29% on year and nearly 14% on quarter. The company's total income for the December quarter was INR 100.84 billion, up over 17% from INR 85.93 billion a year ago.
The company's total expenses for the December quarter rose over 15% on year and 3% on quarter to INR 82.22 billion. This was primarily because of higher insurance claims and employee benefit expenses. The company's insurance claims rose over 18% on year to INR 13.22 billion. Its employee benefit expenses rose nearly 22% on year to INR 12.21 billion.
For Apr-Dec, the company reported a consolidated net profit of INR 17.54 billion, up over 12% on year. The company's total income for Apr-Dec was INR 291 billion, up nearly 19% on year.
On Friday, Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Co. Ltd. in which the company holds about 44.37% stake had reported a net profit of INR 12.88 billion for the December quarter, up nearly 19% on year. The bottom line was up by over 11% from the trailing quarter. Total disbursements of the company rose to INR 299.6 billion during the quarter from INR 258.1 billion a year ago.
On Monday, shares of Cholamandalam Financial closed nearly 4% higher at INR 1,714.70 on the National Stock Exchange. End
