India's electricity generation rises 2% to 128.59 bln kWh in Jan

NEW DELHI – Electricity generation in India increased 1.9% year-on-year in January to 128.59 billion kilowatt-hour, data released by the Central Electricity Authority of India showed. In December, total power generation from all sources stood at 126.41 billion kWh.

Total electricity generation includes the power bought from Bhutan.

 

Thermal power generation, the biggest source of power in India, rose 1.6% on year in January to 115.73 billion kWh, while nuclear power generation was up 4.8% on year at 5.01 billion kWh. Hydropower generation increased 6.1% to 7.84 billion kWh.

 

For Apr-Jan, the total electricity produced was 1.283 trillion kWh, down 2.6% on year. India has set a total electricity generation target of 1.725 trillion kWh for 2025-26 (Apr-Mar).
