Maruti Suzuki's production rises 9% YoY in Jan, SUV output surges 42%

MUMBAI – Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. focussed on increasing production of sport utility vehicles in January even as overall production grew 9.4% on year to 226,146 units, according to its exchange filing Monday. The company has been facing difficulty in meeting the rise in demand for passenger vehicles after the recent cut in Goods and Services Tax. In January, the company focsused on production of utility vehicles, after focussing on mini and compact cars in December.

 

Maruti Suzuki manufactured 99,856 utility vehicles in January, up 42% from 70,305 units a year ago. The company manufactured 19,976 mini cars in January, up 22% on year. However, the output of compact cars fell to 88,968 units, down roughly 11% from last year. Output of mini and compact cars combined fell to 108,944 units, down nearly 7% on year.

 

For the quarter ended December, the company reported a net profit of INR 37.94 billion on revenue of INR 498.92 billion. On Monday, shares of the company rose 1.3% to close at INR 14,384 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
