MUMBAI – The government has proposed to set up a National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences-2, according to the Union Budget for 2026-27 (Apr-Mar) presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Lok Sabha Sunday. It will also upgrade National Mental Health Institutes in Ranchi and Tezpur as Regional Apex Institutions.
Emergencies expose families, particularly the poor and vulnerable, to unexpected expenditure. "We will strengthen and increase these capacities by 50% in district hospitals by establishing Emergency and Trauma Care Centres," she said.
To reaffirm commitment to mental health and trauma care, the government has proposed these measure. These measures will help empower vulnerables access mental health care, Sitharaman said. End
