Tata Motors PV Jan car sales jump 47% on year on robust India performance

MUMBAI – Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. Sunday said it sold 71,066 cars to dealerships in January, up 47% on year. Domestic passenger vehicle sales jumped sharply, with the company selling about 20,000 more cars in India in January compared with December and January last year, according to its exchange filing.

 

Including electric vehicles, the company sold 70,222 passenger vehicles to domestic dealerships in January, up 46% on year and 40% on month. Exports soared to 844 units in January compared with 240 units in January last year and 473 units in December.

 

The Nexon maker, which holds a roughly 45% market share in the Indian electric vehicle market, sold 9,052 electric vehicles in January, up 73% on year and 31% on month. 

 

The company will declare its December quarter results on Thursday. For the September quarter, the company had reported a consolidated net profit of INR 761.70 billion on revenues of INR 723.49 billion. The company had recorded a one-time gain of INR 826 billion following the demerger of its commercial vehicle operations. At 1021 IST, shares of the company traded 2% higher on the National Stock Exchange at INR 357.25.   End
