IMD sees moderate rain, snow over northwest, central India Sun-Tue

MUMBAI – Under the influence of two western disturbances in quick succession, light to moderate rainfall or snowfall is expected over the adjoining plains of northwest India and central India from Sunday to Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department said Saturday. Thereafter, a third western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from Thursday to Saturday, it added.
Scattered light rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning is expected over Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on Sunday and over Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh from Sunday to Tuesday. Similar conditions are also expected over Uttarakhand on Sunday and Monday, the weather bureau said. Hailstorms are likely over parts of east Rajasthan till Tuesday and over west Madhya Pradesh on Sunday.
Cold day conditions are expected in isolated pockets over west Uttar Pradesh Saturday and over east Uttar Pradesh till Sunday, IMD said. Minimum temperatures are expected to rise 3-5 degree Celsius over northwest India during the next 24 hours with no significant change expected over the subsequent 48 hours. Thereafter, a fall by 2-4 degree Celsius is seen in the next four days.
No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over Gujarat during the next 24 hours and a gradual fall by 3-5 degree Celsius is seen during the subsequent 2 days, followed by a gradual rise by 2-3 degree Celsius for 4 days. No significant change in minimum temperatures is expected over the rest of the country, the bureau said. End
