India receives 113% above normal rainfall at 9.8 mm in week to Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average of 9.8 millimetres of rainfall in the week ended Wednesday, 113% above the normal 4.6 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. From Jan. 1 to Jan. 28, the country received 11.7 mm of rainfall, 23% below the normal of 15.2 mm, according to the data.
Two homogeneous regions of the country received above normal showers during the week while two received below normal rainfall. East and northeast India received 0.7 mm of rain, 82% below normal, while northwest India received 28.8 mm, 179% above normal. Central India received 15% below normal rainfall of 1.4 mm during the week. On the other hand, the South Peninsula received 1.9 mm of rainfall, 85% above normal, according to the weather department.
Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, 12 received "large excess" rainfall during the week and one received normal showers. Six sub-divisions received "deficient" showers while five got "large deficient" rainfall. 12 sub-divisions did not receive any rainfall during the week. End
