MUMBAI – Hindalco Industries Ltd., which announced the expansion of its aluminium operations in Odisha on Tuesday, plans to complete the project in two tranches, Managing Director Satish Pai told Informist on the sidelines of the London Metal Exchange Mumbai Forum 2026. The first tranche of the expansion is expected to be completed by December 2027 and the second tranche by December 2028.
The company plans to expand the 360,000-tonne-per-annum smelter at its Aditya Aluminium complex in Sambalpur at a cost of INR 210 billion. The company has also commissioned a 170,000-tonne-per-annum flat-rolled products and battery-grade aluminium foil manufacturing facility at an investment of INR 45 billion.
In a conversation with Matthew Chamberlain, chief executive officer of LME, Pai said the company's focus for the next two years is the completion of all the expansion plans. "...I think what's on the top of my mind in the next 24 months is I have $10 billion of capex (capital expenditure) projects going on...trying to get that capacity and those projects up and running is a single thing that I think is important," Pai said.
The company is slated to declare its December quarter earnings on Feb. 12. For the quarter ended September, Hindalco reported a consolidated net profit of INR 47.41 billion on revenues of INR 660.58 billion. On Wednesday, shares of the company closed 3.8% higher at INR 998.20 on the National Stock Exchange. End
