IMD sees rain, snowfall with thunderstorms over northwest India till Wed

MUMBAI – Under the influence of a western disturbance acting as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over most parts of northwest India till Wednesday, the Indian Meteorological Department said.
The same weather system is also likely to cause light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over parts of Bihar and hailstorms over parts of Sikkim on Wednesday, the weather department said.
A fresh western disturbance is likely to begin affecting northwest India from the second half of Friday. The weather system is expected to cause widespread rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the Western Himalayan region and the adjoining plains of northwest India on Sunday and Monday, the department said.
Dense fog conditions are expected during the morning and night hours in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi from Wednesday to Friday, over Uttarakhand on Thursday and Friday, and over Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar on Wednesday and Thursday, the weather department said. Visibility drops to 0–50 metres in "very dense fog" conditions and to 51–200 metres in "dense fog" conditions.
Cold wave conditions are likely in parts of Himachal Pradesh from Thursday to Saturday, and in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh from Wednesday to Saturday, the weather bureau said.
A gradual fall of 3–5 degrees Celsius in minimum temperature is likely over northwest India during the next two days, after which a gradual rise in the same range is expected. In central India, a gradual fall of 2–4 degrees Celsius in minimum temperature is expected during the next two days and no significant change is seen during the next 24 hours. Thereafter, a gradual rise of 2–4 degrees Celsis is likely during the subsequent four days, the weather department said.
A gradual fall of 2–3 degrees Celsius in the minimum temperature is expected over north Maharashtra during the next two days, after which a gradual rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius is expected during the subsequent three days. In Gujarat, a gradual fall of 3–5 degrees Celsius in minimum temperature is likely during the next 24 hours, after which a gradual rise by 2–4 degrees Celsius is expected during the subsequent three days. No significant change in the minimum temperature is likely over the rest of the country, the weather department said. End
