MUMBAI – Earnings of Kotak Mahindra Bank on Saturday and Axis Bank on Monday are expected to lend direction to Nifty Bank index next week, analysts said. Market participants will also look forward to the announcement of the Union Budget next Sunday.
Axis Bank is likely to report a net profit of nearly INR 60 billion, down nearly 6% on year but up 17% on quarter, according to the average of estimates from 13 brokerages. Kotak Mahindra Bank is expected to report a net profit INR 34.77 billion for the December quarter, up over 5% on year.
"Market direction in the coming week is likely to be driven by global macroeconomic signals and domestic fiscal expectations," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Ltd. "Investors will closely track guidance from the Fed on the trajectory of interest rate cuts, while positioning may be influenced by anticipation surrounding the Union Budget, particularly any measures aimed at easing external trade pressures and supporting capital flows."
In its technical view, Kotak Securities said "For Bank Nifty, 58,000 would act as a key level for traders. Below this, the correction wave is likely to continue until 57500–57100. Conversely, above 59000, it could bounce back up to 59350–59500."
The Nifty Bank index Friday settled at 58473.10 points, down 2.5% from the previous week. Kotak Mahindra Bank and Federal Bank were the two gainers in the index this week while Punjab National Bank and Indusind Bank were the top losers.
