United Forum of Bank Unions has called for strike on Tue, say banks

NEW DELHI – The United Forum of Bank Unions has called for a day's nationwide strike on Tuesday, several banks said in exchange filings Friday. The banks said that "if the strike materialises", the functioning of their branches and offices may be affected.
The United Forum of Bank Unions is an umbrella organisation representing nine major bank unions covering employees of public-sector banks and some old private-sector banks. According to media reports, one of the major demands of the unions is a switch to a five-day work week.
The United Forum of Bank Unions decided to go ahead with the strike after a conciliation meeting convened by the chief labour commissioner (central) between the unions and the Indian Banks' Association ended without any agreement Thursday, according to reports. End
