NEW DELHI – IndusInd Bank expects growth in microfinance segment from March quarter, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Rajiv Anand said Friday. "On asset side, Q4 onwards we anticipate that the microfinance business will start to grow. The commercial vehicle business continues to grow," he said in a post-earnings media conference call.
In the December quarter, the bank's micro loan book almost halved to INR 176.69 billion from INR 325.64 billion last year. It declined more than 17% sequentially. "During Q3FY26, the Bank continued focus on optimisation of its balance sheet by letting go unprofitable loans and deposits along with being cautious on microfinance disbursements," the bank said in a press release quoting Anand.
Anand also said that "the challenge really is to improve both the quality and quantity of our liability franchise, both in terms of retail, granularisation, reduction in bulk deposits, etc. That is a process that we are currently going through."
A sharp rise in provisions and a decline in income dragged bank's net profit nearly 89% on year to INR 1.61 billion in the reporting period, missing an already subdued Street estimate. IndusInd Bank had reported a loss of INR 4.45 billion in the preceding quarter.
The bank aims to appoint new chief technology officer, new chief risk officer and a head of retail banking among others by Mar. 31. "I continue to evaluate the quality of talent across all businesses and that includes treasury," Anand said.
Friday, IndusInd Bank shares ended at INR 892.45, down 1.11%, on the National Stock Exchange. End
