RBI refrains from buying gold in Dec, reserves at 880.18 tn as of Dec 26

MUMBAI – The Reserve Bank of India refrained from adding gold to its reserves in December. Its stock of the precious metal was steady on month at 880.18 tonnes as of Dec. 26, according to the central bank's monthly bulletin released Wednesday.
The RBI's gold reserves were valued at $113.32 billion as of Dec. 26, accounting for more than 16% of the country's total foreign exchange reserves of $696.61 billion.
The monthly average price of gold in Mumbai rose to INR 122,962 per 10 grams in November from INR 121,908 per 10 grams in October and INR 76,221 per 10 grams in November 2024, according to the bulletin, which cited data from the India Bullion and Jewellers Association.
At 1924 IST, the February gold contract on COMEX was at $4,880.4 per ounce, up 2.4% from the previous close. The February contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was up 5.1% at INR 158,203 per 10 grams. End
