MUMBAI – Under the influence of an intense western disturbance, which is likely to affect northwest India from late Wednesday, heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Kashmir valley on Thursday and higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand Friday, the India Meteorological Department said.
The same weather system is also likely to cause a wet spell over parts of northeast and northwest India till Saturday. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely over the same regions till Monday, the weather department said.
Cold wave conditions are very likely over parts of Himachal Pradesh till Wednesday and cold day conditions are very likely over the same region Friday, the weather department said. Ground frost is very likely over parts of Uttarakhand till Wednesday, the weather department said. Ground frost is a covering of ice, in one of its many forms, produced by the sublimation of water vapour on objects colder than 0 degree Celsius.

In central India, no significant change is expected in the minimum temperature in the next two days and a gradual rise by 2–4 degrees Celsius in the subsequent three days is likely thereafter, the weather department said.
In Maharashtra, no significant change in the minimum temperature is likely in the next 24 hours and thereafter, a gradual rise by 2–4 degrees Celsius is expected in the subsequent five days.
