NEW DELHI – Extreme cold conditions have eased in Delhi and adjoining areas, with minimum temperatures rising marginally over the past few days, Skymet said. Cloudy, rainy weather, and warmer nights are likely in the region from Thursday, it added.

"The lowest minimum temperature so far in the city was recorded on 15 Jan at 2.9°C. It is unlikely to drop to such low single digits in the remaining days of the month," Skymet said.

The minimum temperature could rise to double digits any time after Thursday with the onset of rainfall, the weather agency said. However, daytime temperatures are likely to become colder, it added.

The minimum temperatures have mostly remained in single digits over the last 10 days, it added. On Monday, Delhi's Safdurjung base station recorded the highest minimum temperature so far for January at 7.7 degrees Celsius, Skymet said.

Delhi may experience cloudy conditions and rainfall from Thursday, extending beyond Republic Day. "The winds will change to easterly, rather moist and warm. This long spell will arrest any sharp drop in temperatures over Delhi," Skymet said.

Extreme cold wave conditions have also eased across the plains of north India over Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and adjoining parts, the private weather agency said.  End
