--JioHotstar to up subscription price across plans for new users from Jan 28

MUMBAI – Reliance Industries Ltd.'s JioHotstar Monday introduced monthly subscription plans across tiers for new subscribers and also revised prices for its quarterly and annual subscriptions, the streaming platform said in a press release. The new plans and pricing will come into effect Jan. 28. JioHotstar said existing subscribers will be able to continue with their current plans and pricing without any change as long as auto-renewals remain active. 

 

For the subscription of its mobile plan, JioHotstar has introduced a new monthly plan of INR 79 that will give access to one user on one mobile device. Prices for the platform's quarterly and annual plans were left unchanged at INR 149 and INR 499, respectively. These plans are ad-supported and include all content except Hollywood, which is available as an add-on.

 

JioHotstar is a platform operated by JioStar, a joint venture between Reliance Industries and Disney. RIL holds 16.34% stake in this venture while its arm Viacom18 Media Pvt. Ltd. holds 46.82% and US-based media conglomerate Disney holds 36.84%.

 

The new monthly plan for the Super subscription will cost INR 149 with access for up to two devices at a time and access to all content. The company has raised the cost of its quarterly Super subscription by nearly 17% to INR 349 from 299 and for the annual plan by over 22% to INR 1,099 from INR 899.

 

The monthly plan for a Premium subscription to the streaming platform is priced at INR 299 with access for up to four devices at a time and allowing the viewer to have an ad-free experience, except for live shows. The price for the quarterly subscription to the Premium plan has been increased by over 40% to INR 699 from INR 499. The annual Premium subscription will cost INR 2,199 for new subscribers, an upside of nearly 47% from INR 1,499.

 

For the December quarter, Reliance Industries reported, on a consolidated basis, a net profit of INR 186.45 billion on a revenue of INR 2.695 trillion. Monday, shares of the company closed over 3% lower at INR 1,413.60 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
