PSU banks sanctioned INR-523-bln loans under new credit model during Apr-Dec

NEW DELHI - Public sector banks sanctioned loans worth over INR 523 billion for 396,000 micro, small and medium enterprises during the first nine months of 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) under the credit assessment model based on digital footprints, the finance ministry said Monday. The credit model was announced in the Budget for FY26, and was rolled out in 2025.
The credit assessment model leverages digitally fetched and verifiable data available in the ecosystem and devises automated procedure for MSME loan appraisal, including setting loan limit for both existing customers and new MSME borrowers. Digital footprints used by the model include goods and services tax data analysis, bank statement analysis, income tax return verification and due diligence using Credit Information Companies data, fraud checks, among others.
