MUMBAI – Dense to very dense fog is very likely in the early hours of the day and late in the day in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh till Sunday, the India Meteorological Department said. Similar conditions are expected over parts of Uttar Pradesh till Monday, the weather department said.

Dense fog conditions are very likely early and late in the day in some parts of Jammu, Uttarakhand, and Gangetic West Bengal till Monday, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Friday. Similar conditions are expected over parts of Bihar till Wednesday, Assam and Meghalaya till Sunday. Visibility drops to 0–50 metres in "very dense fog" conditions and between 51–200 metres in "dense fog" conditions.

Cold day conditions are very likely to prevail over west Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, east Uttar Pradesh on Saturday and Sunday, the weather department said. Cold day conditions are associated with a fall in maximum temperature, typically occurring due to persistent low clouding. A cold day occurs when the maximum temperature during the day is at least 4.5 degrees Celsius below normal.

Cold wave conditions are very likely to prevail in some parts of east Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha on Saturday and Sunday. A cold wave condition is when the minimum temperature drops to 10 degrees Celsius or less in the plains and 0 degree Celsius or lower in the hilly regions, according to the weather bureau.

Conditions are becoming favourable for cessation of northeast rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and the adjoining areas of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and south interior Karnataka during the next two days, the weather department said.

A gradual rise in minimum temperature by 2 degrees Celsius is expected over northwest and central India in the next two days. After this, no significant change is expected in minimum temperature for the next three days, followed by a gradual rise by 3–5 degrees Celsius during the subsequent two days. Over eastern India, no significant change in minimum temperature is expected during the next 24 hours, after which a gradual rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius is likely during the subsequent four days and no significant change for the subsequent two days.  End
