NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with leaders of select Indian startups in New Delhi on Friday, which marks 10 years of Startup India, a flagship scheme of the Union government to promote entrepreneurship and generate employment.
Some representatives will also share insights from their entrepreneurial journey with the prime minister. "The prime minister will interact with members of India's vibrant startup ecosystem. Select startup representatives will share insights from their entrepreneurial journey", the Prime Minister's Office said in a release on Thursday.
Startup India was launched on Jan. 16, 2016 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a national programme to nurture innovation, promote entrepreneurship and enable investment-driven growth, with the objective of "making India a nation of job creators rather than job seekers".
India's startup ecosystem has expanded significantly over the past decade with more than 200,000 startups registered with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade. "These enterprises have become significant drivers of employment generation, innovation-led economic growth and the strengthening of domestic value chains in diverse sectors," the release said.
A company less than 10 years old, incorporated as a private limited company, a registered partnership firm, or a limited liability partnership with an annual turnover not exceeding INR 1 billion is recognised as a startup. End
