IMD sees cold wave to severe cold wave over north Indian states Tue-Wed

MUMBAI – Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are very likely in a few parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab on Tuesday and Wednesday, and over Rajasthan on Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department said. Cold wave conditions are expected over a few parts of Himachal Pradesh and west Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday and Wednesday, over Rajasthan on Wednesday and Thursday, over Odisha from Tuesday to Thursday, and over Jharkhand from Tuesday to Friday, the weather department said.
Cold to severe cold day conditions are expected over some parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh till Tuesday and cold day conditions are likely in parts of Uttarakhand till Tuesday, the weather department said.
A cold wave condition is when the minimum temperature drops to 10 degrees Celsius or less for plains and 0 degree Celsius or lower for hilly regions, according to the weather bureau. Cold day conditions are associated with a fall in maximum temperatures, typically occurring due to persistent low clouding. A cold day occurs when the maximum temperature during the day is at least 4.5 degrees Celsius below normal.
Dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail in the morning hours in some parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab till Wednesday, over west Uttar Pradesh till Jan. 19 and over east Uttar Pradesh from Jan. 17–19, the weather department said.
Dense fog is likely over parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab till Sunday, over east Uttar Pradesh from Tuesday to Friday, and over parts of northwest, northeast, and central India till Saturday, the weather department said. Visibility drops to 0–50 metres in "very dense fog" conditions and between 51 and 200 metres in "dense fog" conditions.
No significant change in minimum temperature is likely over northwest India during the next three days, after which a gradual rise by 2–4 degrees Celsius is expected during the next four days. In Maharashtra, a gradual rise in minimum temperature is expected by 2–3 degrees Celsius during the next 24 hours, the weather bureau said.
A gradual rise in minimum temperature is likely over Gujarat by 2–3 degrees Celsius during the next 24 hours, and thereafter a gradual fall by 2–3 degrees Celsius is seen during the next 48 hours. No significant change in minimum temperature is expected over the rest of the country, the weather department said. End
