MUMBAI – Oil and Natural Gas Corp. Ltd. Saturday said it has established well control at its Well Mori-5 and has completed the capping operation in five days, according to an exchange filing by the company. The blowout took place on Monday during service operations at the well by production enhancement contractor Deep Industries Ltd. This led ONGC to activate its in-house crisis management framework and deploy specialised manpower and equipment to contain the situation, the company said.
Located in a remote village of Irusumanda in Andhra Pradesh, the Mori Well-5 that is operated by Deep Industries fell victim to a gas leak that caused flames which were 25-metre-high and 20-metre-wide. The incident caused temperatures of more than 50 degrees Celsius to spread to nearby villages, prompting the company to evacuate localities. No injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident, the company said Monday.
Oil and Natural Gas Corp. reported net profit of INR 98.48 billion for the quarter ended September on revenue of INR 330.31 billion. Friday, shares of the company ended over 1% higher at INR 234.09 on the National Stock Exchange. End
