IMD sees heavy rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu on Sunday due to depression

MUMBAI – Deep depression over southwest Bay of Bengal since Friday has weakened into a depression and is still lying off the northeast Sri Lankan cost. Under the influence depression over southwest Bay of Bengal, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over some parts of Tamil Nadu Saturday and heavy rainfall on Sunday, the India Meteorological Department said.

Cold day conditions are likely to prevail over some parts of Rajasthan till Sunday, over Bihar till Wednesday, and over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and sub-Himalayan, West Bengal, and Sikkim Saturday, the weather department said.
A cold wave condition is when the minimum temperature drops to 10 degrees Celsius or less for plains and 0 degree Celsius or lower for hilly regions, according to the weather bureau. Cold day conditions are associated with a fall in maximum temperatures, typically occurring due to persistent low clouding. A cold day occurs when the maximum temperature during the day is at least 4.5 degrees Celsius below normal.
Dense to very dense fog is expected in morning in few parts over Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh till Monday, over Rajasthan till Sunday. Dense fog conditions are also likely over Punjab till Jan. 17, over Rajasthan till Tuesday, and over parts of central and northeast India till Jan. 17, the weather department said.
In northwest India and Madhya Pradesh, no significant change in minimum temperature is expected for the next seven days. A gradual rise in minimum temperature by 2 degrees Celsius is likely over Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh during the next four days and no change in temperature for the next three days are expected. In east India, a gradual rise by 2 degrees Celsius is expected during the next two days, after which no major change for the next five days, the weather department said.
In northeast India, a gradual rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius is expected over the next three days and no significant change for the next four days is likely. No significant change in minimum temperature is likely over Maharashtra during the next two days and a gradual rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius is expected during the subsequent three days and no change for next two days is expected thereafter. In Gujarat, no significant change in the minimum temperature is expected during the next two days and a gradual rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius is likely during the subsequent two days, after which a gradual fall by 2–3 degrees Celsius for the next three days is expected, the weather department said.
