NEW DELHI – Oil and Natural Gas Corp. Ltd. Friday said its crisis management team has cleared out a majority of the debris around the Mori Well-5 in Andhra Pradesh, days after a gas leak was reported at the site. "Key structural obstructions, including portions of the mast and associated equipment, have been removed, allowing operations to progress towards capping of the well," ONGC said in an exchange filing.

The well, which is located in a remote village of Irusumanda in the southern state, fell victim to the gas leak on Monday, which caused 25-metre-high and 20-metre-wide flames. Local news reports say temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius spread to nearby villages, following which the company evacuated localites.

"In view of the stabilised conditions, residents in the surrounding areas have resumed their normal routines," ONGC said. No casualties have been reported due to the gas leak at the well, which is operated by ONGC's production contractor, Ahmedabad-based Deep Industries Ltd.

ONGC had reported net profit of INR 98.48 billion in the September quarter on revenues of INR 330.31 billion. Friday, its shares closed 1.2% higher on the National Stock Exchange at INR 234.09.  End
