RBI cancels registration certificates of 35 NBFCs; 16 voluntarily surrender

NEW DELHI – The Reserve Bank of India has cancelled the certificates of registration of 35 non-banking financial companies, and 16 others surrendered their registrations, the central bank said Wednesday.
Edelweiss Retail Finance Ltd. and four other companies surrendered their certificates of registration because they ceased to exist due to amalgamation, merger, dissolution, and voluntary strike-off. Shyam Basic Infrastructure Projects Pvt Ltd. and two other companies surrendered their certificates after meeting the criteria to be unregistered core investment companies that do not require registration, the RBI said. Eight NBFCs surrendered registrations after exiting the non-banking financial institution business.
Meanwhile, the RBI restored Social Leasing India Ltd.'s certificate of registration after considering orders passed by the appellate authority and the courts. End
