Tata Motors PV sells 168,616 units in Oct-Dec in domestic market, up 21% YoY

MUMBAI – Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. Tuesday reported a significant jump in the production, sales and exports of all but one of its segments for the December quarter. The utility vehicle segment that consists of mid-sized sports utility vehicles, saw production and domestic sales drop 70-80%, the company said in an exchange filing.
For the December quarter, Tata Motors Passenger vehicles produced 165,841 units of vehicles in total, as compared to the production of 133,898 units in the year-ago quarter, implying a jump of an over 23% year on year. The company's domestic sales went up by nearly 21% to 168,616 units during the December quarter and the overall exports stood at 2,397 units during the reporting quarter as against 405 units in the same quarter last year.
The compact sports utility vehicle segment, that consists of Nexon and Punch variants, saw the highest domestic sales during Oct-Dec at 115,435 units, up over 28% on a year-on-year basis. The exports for the segment stood at 457 units during the same period as compared to 160 units exported in the year-ago quarter.
The utility vehicle segment, consisting of Curvv and Sierra models, saw a drop of nearly 75% on year during the December quarter at 3,921 units. The segment saw a sharp jump in its exports for the quarter and came in at 307 units from just 11 units in the year-ago quarter. The company produces 3,624 units in the segment during the quarter, significantly down from 16,380 units in the same quarter last year.
For the September quarter, the company had reported a consolidated net profit of INR 761.70 billion on revenues of INR 723.49 billion. The company had recorded a one-time gain of INR 826 billion following the demerger of its commercial vehicle operations. End
