NEW DELHI - Oil and Natural Gas Corp. Ltd. Tuesday said its senior management has assumed operational control of the Mori-5 Well at Irusumanda village in Andhra Pradesh, a day after reporting a gas leak there. Following remedial measures, the flame intensity at the location has gradually reduced and the team has been able to change the flame to a vertical direction, ONGC said in an exchange filing.
The well was operated by production contractor Deep Industries Ltd. "Excavation work has been completed for the creation of a temporary canal from a nearby irrigation source to facilitate deployment of high-capacity firewater pumps," the company said. The team has finalised a comprehensive blowout control plan, it said. No casualties were reported in the incident, it had said Monday.
The well is located on an insulated layer, which is estimated to hold 30-40 million tonnes of gas reserves, NDTV quoted District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar as saying. Around 300 families in and around the village have been shifted to relief camps, the report said.
ONGC had reported a net profit of INR 98.48 billion for the September quarter on revenues of INR 330.31 billion. On Tuesday, its shares closed 1.6% higher at INR 241.89 on the National Stock Exchange. End
