MUMBAI – Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles late Monday said Jaguar Land Rover's wholesale and retail volumes fell on a quarter-on-quarter and year-on-year basis in the December quarter. Wholesale volumes for the December quarter, excluding the Chery Jaguar Land Rover China JV, declined to 59,200 units, down 43.3% on year and 10.6% on quarter, according to an exchange filing by the company. JLR's retail sales during the same period were at 79,600 units, down 25.1% on year and 6.7% on quarter, the company said.

Sales took a hit as production returned to normal levels only by mid-November after the cyber incident with the company. The time required to distribute vehicles globally after restarting production also hurt sales, the company said. It added that the planned wind-down of legacy Jaguar models ahead of the launch of new models and incremental US tariffs, which hurt the vehicle's US exports, continued to impact sales, as it had already expected.

Wholesale volumes for the financial year to date were at 212,600, down 26.6% on year. Wholesale volumes for Jaguar Land Rover in the December quarter were down in all markets on a year-on-year basis. UK sales were down 0.9%, sales in North America were down 64.4%, sales in Europe were down 47.6%, and sales in China declined 46%. Wholesale volumes in West Asia and North Africa were down 8.5% and overseas sales declined 50.4%.

The company said JLR also saw a broad decline in its retail volumes. Retail sales, including Chery Jaguar Land Rover China JV, in the December quarter stood at 79,600 units, down 25.1% on year and 6.7% on quarter. Retail volumes for the December quarter were down in all markets, with UK retail sales for JLR falling 13.3%, sales in North America down 37.7%, sales in Europe down 26.9%, and sales in China down 18.4%. Retail sales in the West Asia and North Africa region were down 18.7% and retail overseas sales were down 14.1%. Retail volumes for the financial year to date were 259,400, down 19.1% on year, the company said.

The company added that the overall mix of Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Defender models was 74.3% of the total wholesale volumes in the December quarter, up from 70.3% in the year-ago quarter and down from 76.7% from the September quarter.

For the September quarter, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles had reported a consolidated net profit of INR 761.70 billion on revenue of INR 723.49 billion. The company had recorded a one-time gain of INR 826 billion following the demerger of its commercial vehicle operations. Shares of the company closed almost 1% higher at INR 373.55 on the National Stock Exchange on Monday.  End
