NEW DELHI – The government has approved 22 projects worth INR 418.63 billion under the third tranche of Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme. The projects are expected to generate 33,791 direct employment opportunities with projected production of INR 2,581 trillion, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said Friday.

Previously, the government approved 24 applications for INR 127.04 billion under the incentive scheme. The programme has strengthened India's electronics manufacturing ecosystem, enabling large portions of domestic demand to be met indigenously, Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.

The new approvals include manufacturing of 11 target segment products, which have cross-sectoral application such as mobile manufacturing, telecom, consumer electronics, strategic electronics, automotive and information technology hardware products.

Tata Electronics Pvt. Ltd., Yuzhan Technology (India) Pvt. Ltd.--a subsidiary of Taiwan's manufacturing giant Foxconn--and Motherson Group's Motherson Electronic Components Pvt. Ltd. received approval to manufacture enclosures for mobile, information technology hardware products, and related devices.

Global electronics giant Samsung's subsidiary Samsung Display Noida Pvt. Ltd. was selected for manufacturing of display module sub-assembly. ATLbattery Technology (India) Pvt. Ltd.--a leading global player in Li-ion cells manufacturing--was selected for manufacturing of Li-ion cells for digital applications, which serve as rechargeable energy storage units for consumer and industrial electronics.

Hindalco Industries Ltd. was given approval for manufacturing of aluminium extrusion for mobile phones enclosures, which are currently entirely imported. Wipro Global Engineering and Electronic Materials Pvt. Ltd. got approval for manufacturing of laminate (copper clad)--the base material for printed circuit board manufacturing.

Atha Group's NPSPL Advanced Materials Pvt. Ltd. was selected for manufacturing of anode material--a critical item for lithium-ion cell manufacturing that determines energy density and life-cycle of Li-ion cells, the ministry said.

For manufacturing capacitors--which are essential for energy storage and power conditioning in electronic circuits--the government has given approval to Deki Electronics Ltd. and TDK India Pvt. Ltd., a major global manufacturer of electronic components and systems.

The approved projects are spread across eight states--Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. With the latest tranche of approvals, a total of 46 applications have been approved under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme so far across 11 states, with a total investment of INR 545.67 billion, generating direct employment for about 51,000 people.

"These approvals will significantly strengthen domestic supply chains, reduce import dependence for critical electronic components, and support the growth of high-value manufacturing capabilities in India," the ministry said.  End
