Maruti Suzuki total output rises 34% on year in Dec; makes more mini cars

--Maruti Suzuki Dec total production 211,939 units vs 157,654 units year ago 

 

MUMBAI – Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.'s total production rose over 34.4% on year to 211,939 units in December, mainly driven by robust increase in production of both passenger cars and utility vehicles. The company produced a total of 208,591 units of passenger vehicles last month, up a little over 34% on year, the company informed the exchanges. Its light commercial vehicles' output jumped 59% on year to 3,348 units. 

 

The Alto-maker produced 108,462 units of passenger cars in December, which include mini and compact cars. This was up over 38% from a year ago. The company did not produce any mid-sized Ciaz cars during the month. The output of mini passenger vehicles sub-segment of the company, which includes S-Presso and Alto, leaped over 73% on year to 19,187 units. Its production volume of passenger cars in the compact sub-segment comprising models such as Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, and WagonR rose over 34% on year to 89,275 units. 

 

The automaker's production of utility vehicles, which include Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Jimny, and XL6, grew over 36% on year to 87,451 units in December. It produced 12,678 vans last month, down around 1% on year. 

 

Maruti Suzuki reported a net profit of INR 32.93 billion for the September quarter on revenue of INR 421.01 billion. On Thursday, shares of the company closed marginally higher at INR 16,708 on the National Stock Exchange.
