NEW DELHI – Indian telecommunications operators net added 2.01 million mobile users in November, up 40% from 1.43 million users net added in October, data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India showed Wednesday. While Reliance Industries Ltd.'s Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd., Bharti Airtel Ltd., and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. added more users in November, Vodafone Idea Ltd. saw a fall in subscribers.
Reliance Jio net added 1.39 million mobile users in November, taking its overall tally to 486.09 million users. In October, Reliance Jio had recorded a net addition of around 2.00 mllion users.
Bharti Airtel retained the second spot as it net added 1.22 million mobile users in November, mildly lower than 1.25 million users added in October. As of Nov. 30, Bharti Airtel had 394.88 million mobile users.
Vodafone Idea lost 1.01 million mobile subscribers on a net basis in November, bringing down its overall subscriber tally to 199.71 million users. The fall, however, was much less than the net reduction of 2.08 million users in October. State-owned BSNL net added 421,514 users, taking its overall subscriber tally to 92.96 million users.
The number of wireless, or mobile, subscribers in India increased to 1.17 billion as of Nov. 30, up 0.2% from the end of October. While private companies have cornered 92.06% of the wireless market in India, public-sector undertakings hold 7.94% market share. Reliance Jio alone holds 41.41% market share, 5 basis points higher than in October.
Bharti Airtel's market share also rose 5 bps on month to 33.64%. Vodafone Idea ceded ground by 12 bps on month, with its market share falling to 17.01% as of Nov. 30. BSNL's market share grew 2 bps on month to 7.92%. End
