NEW DELHI – The Department of Food and Public Distribution has released INR 1.37 trillion as food subsidy to Food Corp. of India and states operating under the decentralised procurement system in the current financial year so far, according to a statement released by the consumer affairs ministry Wednesday.

As of Nov. 26, the Centre has disbursed INR 865.17 billion to FCI and INR 503.92 billion to states, including direct benefit transfer components, during FY26. The combined payout stands at INR 1.369 trillion.

Under the decentralised procurement mechanism, states procure and distribute foodgrains for central welfare schemes and the Centre reimburses the expenditure incurred by them. Separately, FCI releases funds to states for the quantity of foodgrains handed over to the central pool. The food subsidy released to both FCI and states was made in line with the budgetary allocation approved by the Ministry of Finance, the release said.

In the previous financial year, the total food subsidy released to FCI and states were INR 1.995 trillion. Of this, FCI received INR 1.291 trillion and states INR 704.11 billion.   End
