India receives 95% below normal rainfall at 0.2 mm in week to Wed, says IMD

NEW DELHI – India received 0.2 millimetres of rainfall in the week ended Wednesday, 95% below the normal of 3.7 millimetre for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. From Oct. 1 to Dec. 31, the country received 134.2 millimetres of rainfall, 11% above the normal of 121.0 millimetres, the data showed. 

 

All four homogeneous regions in the country received below-normal rainfall during the week. East and northeast India received 85% below normal rains at 0.6 millimetres, north west India received 99% below normal rains. South peninsular India received 88% below normal rains at 0.4 millimetres, and central India did not receive any rainfall during the week ended Wednesday.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, 29 did not receive any rainfall. Five subdivisions received "large deficient" rainfall, one of the subdivisions received "deficient" and another "normal" showers in the week ended Wednesday. End
