India's FX reserves at 8-week high of $693.32 bln as of Dec 19 - RBI data

NEW DELHI – India's foreign exchange reserves rose to an eight-week high of $693.32 billion in the week ended Dec. 19, according to data released by the Reserve Bank of India on Friday. The reserves were up $4.37 billion from a week ago, the biggest jump in five weeks.

 

Foreign currency assets rose $1.64 billion on week--the biggest jump in 14 weeks--to $559.43 billion as of Dec. 19. The value of the central bank's gold holdings increased for the fourth consecutive week to a record high of $110.37 billion in the reporting week. Gold holdings were up $2.62 billion from the previous week.

 

Calculated in dollar terms, the RBI's foreign exchange reserves also reflect the impact of appreciation or depreciation of currencies other than the dollar, such as the euro, the pound sterling, and the yen, held by the central bank.  End
