IMD sees dense to very dense fog in parts of north, northeast India till Thu

MUMBAI – Dense to very dense fog is very likely over parts of Assam till Saturday and over Himachal Pradesh till Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department said. Similar weather conditions are likely during the night and morning hours in some parts of Bihar till Sunday, over a few parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh till Tuesday, and many parts of Uttar Pradesh till Thursday, the weather department said. 

 

Dense fog conditions are very likely to over parts of Arunachal Pradesh till Monday, and over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Odisha till Wednesday. Similar weather conditions are likely over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Sunday, and over Uttarakhand till Wednesday, the weather department said.  

 

Under the influence of a subtropical westerly jet stream, cold to severe cold day conditions are expected in a few places in east Uttar Pradesh till Saturday, the weather department said. A cold day occurs when the maximum temperature during the day is at least 4.5 degrees Celsius below normal, while a severe cold day is when the maximum temperature is at least 6.5 degrees Celsius below normal.

 

Cold day conditions are also very likely in parts of Bihar till Tuesday, Uttarakhand till Sunday, west Uttar Pradesh till Saturday, and east Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, the weather department said. Cold wave conditions are expected in parts of north Rajasthan on Saturday, and in Jharkhand during the weekend, it said. 

 

A western disturbance currently lies to the northwest of the country, which is likely to lead to light or moderate rainfall or snowfall over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad from Monday to Thursday, and over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Tuesday and Wednesday, the weather bureau said. A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from Tuesday, it said

 

No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over northwest, central, and east India for the next four to five days, and a rise of 2–3 degrees Celsius is likely in the subsequent three days, the weather department said. No major change in minimum temperatures is expected in the remaining parts of the country.  End
