India receives 65% below normal rainfall at 1.0 mm in week to Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 1.0 millimetre of rainfall in the week ended Wednesday, 65% below the normal of 2.8 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. From Oct. 1 to Dec. 24, the country received 134.0 millimetres of rainfall, 14% above the normal of 117.3 millimetres, the data showed.
All four homogeneous regions in the country received below-normal rainfall during the week. East and northeast India received 96% below normal rains at 0.1 millimetres, north west India received 25% below normal rains at 2.9 millimetres, and south peninsular India received 90% below normal rains at 0.5 millimetres. Central India did not receive any rainfall during the week ended Wednesday.
Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, 28 did not receive any rainfall. Seven sub-divisions received "large deficient" rainfall and one of the subdivisions received "normal" showers. End
