IMD sees cold day to severe cold day conditions in Uttarakhand till Sat

MUMBAI – Cold day to severe cold day conditions are likely in parts of Uttarakhand till Saturday, the India Meteorological Department said. Cold day conditions are very likely in some parts of east Uttar Pradesh till Friday and in Bihar till Saturday, the weather department said. A cold day occurs when the maximum temperature during the day is at least 4.5 degrees Celsius below normal, while a severe cold day is when the maximum temperature is at least 6.5 degrees Celsius below normal.

 

Dense to very dense fog conditions are expected in the night and morning hours over parts of east Uttar Pradesh till Wednesday, over parts of west Uttar Pradesh till Sunday, and in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad till Sunday, the weather department said. Similar weather conditions are likely over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand till Monday, over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi from Saturday to Monday, and over Uttar Pradesh on Sunday and Monday.

 

Dense fog conditions are likely to persist over most parts of northwest and northeast India and some parts of central and east India, the weather department said. Visibility in "very dense fog" conditions drops to 0–50 metres and in "dense fog" conditions, between 51 and 200 metres.

 

Light to moderate rainfall or snowfall is very likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad from Saturday to Tuesday, over Himachal Pradesh on Sunday and Tuesday, and over Uttarakhand on Monday and Tuesday, the weather bureau said.

 

A gradual fall of 2–4 degrees Celsius is likely over northwest India in the next two days, the weather department said. In east India, minimum temperatures are expected to gradually fall by 2–3 degrees Celsius in the next three days, the department said.

 

In northest India, no significant change in minimum temperatures is expected in the next two days, and a gradual fall of 3–4 degrees Celsius is expected in the subsequent five days, the department said. No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over the remaining parts of the country, it said.  End
