High court extends interim relief to Tata Steel on Jajpur demand orders till Jan 8

MUMBAI – Tata Steel Ltd. Tuesday said that the Odisha High Court has extended the interim protection against two demand orders of INR 19.03 billion and INR 24.11 billion issued by the Office of Deputy Director of Mines, Jajpur, on Jul. 3 and Oct. 3, respectively. The high court has restrained the mines department from taking any action against the company until the next date of hearing on Jan. 8, the company said in an exchange filing.
On Dec. 13, the court had extended interim protection against the orders till Dec. 19. Both the demand orders were issued with respect to assessment of shortfall in dispatch of minerals from the company's chromite block in Sukinda, Odisha, as per the terms of the mine development and production agreement. The company had filed a writ petition with the Odisha High Court on Aug. 8 to quash the INR 19.03-billion demand order and filed another writ petition on Oct. 29 to quash the demand order of INR 24.11 billion.
For the quarter ended September, Tata Steel reported a consolidated net profit of INR 31.02 billion on revenue of INR 586.89 billion. On Tuesday, shares of the company closed 1% higher at INR 170.90 on the National Stock Exchange. End
