IMD sees dense to very dense fog in Delhi, north Indian states this week

MUMBAI – Dense to very dense fog conditions are likely during the night and morning hours over Punjab till Saturday, over Uttar Pradesh till Tuesday and from Friday to Sunday, and over Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi from Wednesday to Saturday, the India Meteorological Department said. Dense fog conditions are likely over several parts of northwest India and over some parts of east and central India till Monday, the weather department said.

 

Visibility in "very dense fog" conditions drops to 0–50 metres and in "dense fog" conditions is anywhere between 51 and 200 metres.

 

The weather department has warned of cold day conditions over Bihar till Friday. A cold day occurs when the actual minimum temperature is 10 degrees Celsius or less for plains and 0 degrees Celsius or less for hilly regions.

 

Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate snowfall or rainfall is very likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad till Tuesday and during the weekend, the weather department said. Similar weather conditions are likely over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Sunday, the department said. 

 

A gradual fall in minimum temperatures by 3–5 degrees Celsius is likely over northwest India in the next three days, the weather bureau said. In east India, no significant change in minimum temperature is expected in the next two days, after which a gradual fall by 2–3 degrees Celsius is seen in the subsequent five days, the bureau said.

 

No major change in minimum temperature is expected over central India in the next 24 hours, after which they could gradually fall by 2 degrees Celsius in the subsequent two days. In Maharashtra, a gradual fall in minimum temperatures is expected by 2–3 degrees Celsius in the next two days, the bureau said. 

 

In Gujarat, no significant change in minimum temperature is seen in the next 24 hours, and thereafter a gradual fall by 2–3 degrees Celsius is likely in the subsequent three days. No significant change in minimum temperature is expected over the rest of the country in the next seven days, the weather department said.  End
