NEW DELHI – India's free trade agreement with Oman, which was signed on Thursday, will be effective in three months, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said Friday.
With the trade deal covering 98.08% tariff lines to Oman, 99.38% of India's export value to the Gulf nation will be duty-free. India's exports to Oman were $4.41 billion in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar).
New Delhi has also offered duty-free access to Omani goods on 77.79% tariff lines under the pact. These lines cover 94.81% of Indian imports from Oman. In FY25, India's imports from Oman were $6.55 billion.
Both sides signed the free trade agreement after negotiating for over two years. This is India's second FTA in the Gulf Cooperation Council after signing one with the United Arab Emirates. India also aims to soon initiate negotiations for a deal with Qatar in the Gulf. End
