Bharti Airtel approves final call to raise INR 157 bln via rights issue

MUMBAI – Bharti Airtel Ltd. approved the first and the final call for the remaining INR 157.41 billion proceeds to be raised through a rights issue announced in 2021. The company had approved raising up to INR 210 billion through rights issue in 2021.
Bharti Airtel approved the final call of INR 401.25 per share on over 392 million shares. The company's board has fixed Feb. 6 as the record date and the call payment can be made between Mar. 2 and Mar. 16.
The proceeds from the call payments will be utilised to pay interest on borrowings and general corporate purposes. After this, the company expects its India operations to become "effectively net debt-free" in the near term barring liabilies to the Department of Telecommunication and finance lease obligations.
For the quarter ended September, Bharti Airtel had reported a consolidated net profit of INR 67.92 billion on a revenue of INR 521.45 billion. Thursday, the stock closed 0.8% lower at INR 2,092.00 on the National Stock Exchange. End
