Govt levies import restriction on potassium clavulanate till Nov 2026

NEW DELHI – The government has imposed restrictions on the import of potassium clavulanate and some intermediates used for the manufacturing of clavulanic acid and potassium clavulanate, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade said Wednesday. Potassium clavulanate is primarily used by the pharmaceutical industry in manufacturing of drugs for treatment of bacterial infections.

 

The restriction will stay in place till Nov. 30, 2026, according to the notification. Import of potassium clavulanate with cost insurance freight value below $180 per kilogram will be restricted. For the import of diluted potassium clavulanate, cost insurance freight value must be over $77 per kg, the notification said. 

 

Some intermediates, like tertiary butylamine salt and tertiary octylamine salt, used in manufacturing of clavulanic acid and potassium clavulanate, can be imported only if cost insurance freight value exceeds $92 per kg.   End
