NEW DELHI – India will sign and execute the free trade agreement with Oman on Thursday, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said Wednesday. Goyal will sign the deal with his Omani counterpart Qais Mohammed Al Yousef.
In India, the Union Cabinet clears free trade agreements, while in Oman, the Shura Council, Oman's Lower House, approves trade deals. With the approvals in place, the trade pact can be implemented immediately upon signing.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to be in Muscat at the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. This will mark India's second free trade agreement with a member state of the Gulf Cooperation Council, following the pact with the United Arab Emirates.
New Delhi and Muscat concluded negotiations on the trade pact in August, following two years of discussions. Oman's total trade with India in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar) was $ 10.96 billion, including Indian exports of $4.41 billion. End
