MUMBAI – Very dense fog conditions are expected in parts of Uttar Pradesh and east Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday and Thursday, the India Meteorological Department said. Dense fog conditions are also likely in the same regions during the early hours of Wednesday to Saturday, the weather department said.

Dense fog conditions are also likely during the early hours in parts of northeast India from Wednesday to Sunday, in Punjab from Wednesday to Saturday, in Himachal Pradesh from Wednesday to Friday, over Uttarakhand, west Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha on Wednesday and Thursday, and over Haryana and Chandigarh from Thursday to Saturday, the department said.

Visibility in very dense fog conditions drops to 0–50 metres, while visibility in dense fog conditions is anywhere between 51 and 200 metres. In the past 24 hours, very dense fog was reported in a few parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Odisha. Flight operations at the airport in Delhi were severely disrupted on Monday as dense fog and low visibility led to the cancellation of around 228 flights, with five others diverted, The Times of India reported, quoting airport authorities. The airport issued a fresh advisory on Tuesday, warning that while flight operations had been normalising after hundreds of cancellations due to fog, disruptions were likely to continue.

Cold wave conditions are likely over parts of Telangana, north interior Karnataka, and west Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday and Thursday, the weather bureau said.

Under the influence of a western disturbance to the northwest of the country, along with the formation of another fresh feeble western disturbance on Wednesday, light rainfall or snowfall is likely over parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad from Thursday to Monday, over Himachal Pradesh and Punjab over the weekend and over Uttarakhand on Sunday, the department said.

No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over northwest India in the next three days, after which a gradual rise of 2–3 degrees Celsius is expected in the subsequent four days, the weather bureau said. In Gujarat, no major change in minimum temperatures is expected in the next 24 hours, and thereafter a gradual rise of 2–3 degrees Celsius is seen in the subsequent three days, the bureau said.

No significant change in minimum temperatures is seen over the remaining parts of the country in the next seven days, the weather department said.  End
