NEW DELHI – The Reserve Bank of India's house price index rose 2.2% on year in the September quarter compared with a 7.0% rise in the year-ago quarter with cities like Nagpur, Ghaziabad, and Chandigarh contributing to the rise, the central bank said Thursday. On a sequential basis, the index decreased 0.6% in the September quarter contributed largely by Kolkata, Chennai and Lucknow.

Since the June quarter, the RBI is releasing the quarterly house price index with a new base year of 2022-23 (Apr-Mar). The index now covers 18 major cities, after the RBI added Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Pune, Ghaziabad, Thane, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Chandigarh, and Nagpur in the new series.

The value of house price index declined to 112.7 in Jul-Sept from 113.4 in Apr-Jun owing to a decrease in the index for major cities like Kolkata, Chennai, Lucknow and Hyderabad, the central bank said. The RBI compiles house price index on quarterly basis based on transaction-level data received from the registration authorities. End
