NEW DELHI – Growth in the number of e-way bills generated slowed down to a three-year low in October likely because of the full impact of goods and services rate cuts, which came into effect from Sept. 22. The slowdown in year-on-year growth of e-way bills suggests GST collections could slow down in November as most e-way bill transactions are reflected in the next month's collections.
E-way bills generated rose 8.2% on year to a four-month low of 126.86 million in October, according to data from the Goods and Services Tax Network. Sequentially, the number of e-way bills generated fell 3.9% from the all-time high of 132.01 million in September. The 8.2% year-on-year growth rate is the slowest since October 2022 and the 3.9% on-month fall is the biggest sequential decline since April.
An e-way bill is a GST document for transport of goods worth more than INR 50,000 within or outside a state. The number of e-way bills generated is considered a lead indicator of economic activity and domestic trade. GST collections rose 4.6% on year to INR 1.96 trillion in October, data released earlier this month showed. The 4.6% rise was the slowest pace of on-year growth since June 2021. End
