MUMBAI – Eicher Motors Ltd. sold 8,050 commercial vehicles through its joint venture VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd., the highest in a month since March, and up 13.2% on year. Of this, 7,771 units were Eicher Motors-branded while 279 were Volvo trucks and buses, the company said Saturday. Dispatches of Eicher trucks and buses rose 12.4% on year in Octpber, while those of Volvo rose 38.8%. 

Within the Eicher portfolio, 7,070 units were sold in India in October, while 701 units were exported.

Wholesale sales of small commercial vehicles and light-medium duty trucks with a payload capacity of less than 18.5 tonnes in India grew 12.6% on year to 4,241 units last month. Domestic sales of heavy-duty trucks with a payload capacity of over 18.5 tonnes declined 6.8% on year to 1,876 units during the month. At the same time, sales of light-to-medium-duty buses in India rose 16.1% on year to 842 units, and those of heavy-duty buses rose almost 2% to 111 units.

Exports of Eicher Motors-branded light-medium duty commercial vehicles almost more than doubled on year to 407 units in October, with heavy-duty commercial vehicles seeing a similar growth to 78 units from 35 a year ago. Exports of buses rose nearly three times to 216 units in October. 

Eicher Motors sold a total of 51,561 commercial vehicles during Apr-Oct, up 8.3% on year. Of this, 50,161 were Eicher trucks and buses and 1,400 were Volvo-branded. Within the Eicher portfolio, 46,200 units were sold in India during the first seven months of the current financial year, while 3,961 units were sold overseas. Domestic wholesale sales of Eicher trucks and buses grew 8.5% on year during Apr-Sept, while exports grew 51.1%. 

For the June quarter, Eicher Motors had reported a consolidated net profit of 12.05 billion on revenues of INR 50.42 billion. On Friday, shares of the company ended 1.7% higher at INR 7,007 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
