NEW DELHI – India's foreign exchange reserves posted their biggest weekly decline in 12 weeks, falling to $695.36 billion in the week ended Oct. 24, according to data released by the Reserve Bank of India on Friday. The reserves were down $6.93 billion from a week ago, likely reflecting the central bank's active intervention in the foreign exchange market by selling dollars.
Foreign currency assets fell $3.9 billion on week to $566.55 billion as of Oct. 24. The value of the central bank's gold holdings decreased by $3.01 billion to $105.54 billion in the reporting week.
Calculated in dollar terms, the RBI's foreign exchange reserves also reflect the impact of appreciation or depreciation of currencies other than the dollar, such as the euro, the pound sterling, and the yen, held by the central bank. End
