NEW DELHI – India's foreign exchange reserves rose to $702.28 billion in the week ended Oct. 17, after falling for four consecutive weeks, according to data released by the Reserve Bank of India Friday. The reserves were up $4.50 billion from a week ago and were not too far from the record high of $704.89 billion.
Foreign currency assets fell by $1.69 billion on week to $570.41 billion as of Oct. 17. The value of the central bank's gold holdings increased by $6.18 billion to an all-time high of $108.55 billion in the reporting week.
Calculated in dollar terms, the central bank's foreign exchange reserves also reflect the impact of appreciation or depreciation of currencies other than the dollar, such as the euro, the pound sterling, and the yen, held by the RBI. End
